A Fireworks Display of New Vehicles at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show

-Design study of the first Volkswagen pickup
-Caddy 4MOTION with permanent 4-wheel drive
-Caddy PanAmericana concept car for globetrotters
-Caddy Life “Style Edition” as a classy compact van
-Crafter BlueMotion concept car cuts back operating costs

Hanover, 8.September 2008: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is using this year’s IAA, the 62nd IAA Commercial Vehicles show (from 25 September to 2 October), to showcase a whole string of innovations and thus assume a pioneering role in a number of key vehicle segments. In addition to presenting a design study for the first-ever pickup by a European automobile maker, the display includes the 4-wheel-drive Caddy 4MOTION as well as the Caddy PanAmericana concept car. The Caddy Life Style Edition represents the premium pick in the Caddy range, while the Crafter BlueMotion provides an impressive interpretation of the fuel-reduction theme.
The highlight at the display stand in Hall 12 will be a design study of the first Volkswagen pickup in the 1-ton class. This concept car provides an outlook on Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ fourth model series, which will be due to come off the assembly line at the Pacheco plant in Argentina in late 2009. As the first-ever pickup manufactured by a European mass-series producer, it will set new standards in this segment.

In another variation on its exceptionally versatile and therefore highly successful city delivery van, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will also be exhibiting its Caddy 4MOTION. Driven by a fuel-efficient 1.9 TDI engine with 77 kW / 105 PS, this Caddy features fourth-generation Haldex coupling and a six-speed manual gearbox. The Caddy 4MOTION Life, Kombi and Box Vans will be available for order in a variety of fittings versions in autumn 2008, i.e. in time for the onset of the winter season. It will be the only city delivery van with 4-wheel drive currently available on the market.

The PanAmericana concept car has been designed on the basis of the 4-wheel-drive Caddy 4MOTION and comes with an extra appetite for adventure. Analogous to the PanAmericana Multivan, it features a Salt-Lake Grey finish, 16” off-road tyres and high-quality leather fittings on the inside.

As the top choice in the Caddy range, a series-production version of the Caddy Life Style Edition will be on display at the IAA. 16” alloy wheel rims, a chrome-look radiator grille, lowered running gear, a pull-out loading surface, high-quality interior leather fittings and other extras all serve to clearly distinguish this special Caddy from the models offered to date.

After introduction of its Caddy BlueMotion this spring, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ exhibition of its Crafter BlueMotion concept car at the IAA will now demonstrate the kind of potential offered even by a large box van to reduce fuel consumption. The Crafter BlueMotion uses AdBlue technology not only as a basis for cutting fuel consumption by a litre, but also for achieving compliance with the Euro V-norm exhaust ceiling.

The South American trucks-and-buses division of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be showcasing its current Constellation series in Hanover as well as its “People’s Bus”, the Volksbus. The central attraction at this stand (867 square metres in size) will be a race truck from the Brazilian truck series, which won time and again the Brazilian championship.

On a total display surface of 7,375 square metres in Hall 12, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will be exhibiting 44 vehicles in all and thus demonstrating the variety inherent in its range, which includes everything from box vans or the pickup to the exclusive Multivan Business.

An outdoor display area measuring 2,116 square metres will additionally put the spotlight on around 30 vehicles produced by a number of different companies specialising in chassis fittings and body modifications, all of which have used Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles-brand models as the technical basis for their products.
