The CHT is originally a Renault engine, and not a good one either. We got lots of Brasilian made Escorts here in Norway the early 1980s, fitted with the CHT engine.

These Escorts, which all carried the LX trim level, rusted badly, even worse than their German counterparts. They were very low priced when they were new (around 2/3 of a German Escort), so they sold as hot cakes.

We had both 1.3 and 1.6 versions of the Escort LX, but the Wiki site doesn't mention a 1.3. I cant remember if the 1.3 was a CHT or a different Renault or Ford powerplant though.

Low power, but high economy. I have a Parati 92' with this engine (1.6 liters) and it's nice. It works as a brand new engine.
The Escort is a poor car, with a bad rear suspension, and it has problems with corrosion.
