I am not sure about the headlights either, but they easily unbolt, so they can stay for now.

I wonder what it would look like with the original headlights at the original spots. Like it is now it's a bit odd.
Further i have no words; wot a project!!

Thanks! I would have left them in the original location, but they would be to low to meet the legal requirement (61 cm). Also, the light would be obstructed by the front axle. I have to say that the headlight set up looks better in person than in 2 dimension photos, but I am still not sure that I will keep them. I really like the way it looks without lights, so I have ordered a set of very small HID lights to experiment with. I hope that I can position them in a way that they are not noticeable when turned off. I may also try to make a hidden headlight compartment. The lights that are on the truck right now are simple to remove, so they will stay until I come up with something better. Thanks for your feedback!

I love the steering wheel, are you going to get it with leather?
The headlights are cool but are a little bit "in the face"

I was just going to powder coat it, but I like your leather idea better. I am working on a couple of other headlight ideas. These will have to do for now.

Started framing a bed today. The 3" tubing used as a top rail, closely replicates the body line on the cab.

The basic structure of the bed is finished and welded in. I mocked up one of the four rear fenders to mark the upper bed rail for trimming as the fender will fully penetrate the upper rail.

How will you incorporate the bedsides you have?

Ben Modified 19-08-2015 01:20

After I had them sand blasted, it was clear that the lower 1/3 was useless, so I trimmed off what was left. I am thinking of mounting them upside down, without any latches etc. welding the cut edge to the lower edge of the top rail tubing. Positioned so that the sheet metal lines up with metal of the cab and maintain the "reveal" that is created by the bed rail profile. If this does not come together, I will have to make up some new panels.

sounds good.

Ben Modified 22-08-2015 00:23

Made 2 wide fenders from 4 narrow ones. Lined up each pair, back to back, and clamped them together. Tack welded the inner seams and then fully welded the outside. To remove the sharp edge on the inside of the fenders, I used a reciprocating saw with a long blade to then cut out the inner seam, ground smooth and weld inside edges together.

Pedaalemmer 22-08-2015 07:55

Love those fenders! Did you shape them yourself?

My workshop and my job are in the same building, so at least a couple of hours per day.

Thanks! No, I bought 4 trailer fenders from a local farm supply store. They are reasonably priced and the metal is thick.

More Bed framing and fender mounting

Mounting bargain priced led brake lights in the ends of the upper bed rails
