here another Rallye with a HF hood ;)

Stijn 31-03-2011 15:46

Yep, love the hood! Good idea!

lowera6 31-03-2011 16:53

nice progress!

Te lancia hood matches perfectly to the mk2!
What do you have to change that it looks like the red one?
Amazing!!

Well it needs a lot of work to be fitted to the Mk2  . The hood is 3 centimeters wider from the mk2 hood, and it opens on the opposite side, and in the upper end to the windscreen it don't follows the line  How will I get it to fit I really don't know

monark 31-03-2011 20:55

respect for your work...love it

DÁ-BRT 04-04-2011 10:14

Aren't you scared about the functionality of the changed rollcage design? They are really bend and in the way ain't they?

I don't really catch you're point but no I'm not scared because there are factory Roll cages that have those curves

DÁ-BRT 04-04-2011 12:54

Just worried for your safety ;)

Hmmm. Can't imagine why there are factory cages that are inserted half way the bottom of the car. It's not very strong there. The closer you get to the A-beam the stronger and more effective it is. Are you going to add some reinforcement to the front?

(I worked for Ford in the BIW design for the Kuga and current Mondeo and also in the design of armoured MB and BMW)

Rick 04-04-2011 12:55

Did you have to do some cutting to the dashboard?
Or is it a straight fit?

Awesome project! ;)

No a lot of modifications and cutting were needed to fit the dashboard

Yes I plan on doing some reinforcement to the front of the car but how...I dont really know... yet :D
I bought an OMP upper and lower strut. The lower one is the one that is being screwed to the front axle and the front arms( where the engine sits). I plan on some other reinforcements but if you have something on you're mind please help

DÁ-BRT 04-04-2011 13:48

I think you will cover it a whole lot with a support to the front suspension.

Now there are less positive bends in the cage that will make it bend easier.

Here is what I have bought for the front

DÁ-BRT 04-04-2011 14:07

What I mean is a support to the suspension housing from the rollcage. Or to the OMP bar

Pedaalemmer 04-04-2011 14:16

Nice project! Wouldn't it be nicer to have the rollcage threw the dash instead of in front of it?

But underneath the dash I have a MK5 Heating, that will come in the way of the bars for the support of the suspension housing
Or maybe I should ditch the Heating and go on without it. It adds weight to the car unnecessarily

joostvw 04-04-2011 21:06

I think what DA-BRT means is this:

for more pictures and info about this check:

@ projecten (projects) ;)

That hood is awesome btw

DÁ-BRT 05-04-2011 05:57

Indeed something like this. That will make the rollcage a lot more rigid.

OK it's done the heating is going out. i bought a new sub frame for the MK5 dash and started rebuilding it from scratch
There will be a reinforcement from the roll cage to the front suspension housing and I'm thinking of a reinforcement from the front suspension housing to the end of the front arms :cowboy:

DÁ-BRT 05-04-2011 10:42

I think in this stage of the project it's a good decision. Now it's only a minor setback. Goodluck.

2fast4you 05-04-2011 22:32

Today I finished modifying the tunnel to receive the Golf MK5 selector mechanism .
Started by cutting a bigger hole for the selector mechanism and drilling holes to get it fixed:

the small holes were made to remove the MK2 selector mechanism mounts

did some modifications on the tunnel to fit the MK5 selector mechanism

and here is how it came out:

2fast4you 14-04-2011 21:20

Some progress was done these past days.
:D I totally redone the sub frame for the Golf MK5 dash. I newer posted pictures of the sub frame and the work done for it to be fitted because I didn't like how it was done
So I started everything over again and here is how everything was done:

first of all I bought a new subframe

and the original Golf 5 holders that the sub frame is tighten to and cut them to fit

then more cutting

and then started making some pieces to weld on the chassis that would except the holders for the sub frame

after I welded the holders I cut the rest of the sub frame to fit between the pieces

took the sub frame to be welded and here are the results:

and...

after the sub frame was fitted next was the intake for the air conditioning

first I took a part of the air conditioning to be a little modified

and then everything could be welded

After all of these I had to redo the shifter because it had to move 2 sm back ( it was too close to the dash)

René 14-04-2011 22:23

wow, nice work!

knarfmk1 14-04-2011 22:32

neat! the subframe looks as if it was originally there!

2fast4you 17-04-2011 18:35

I'm almost finished with the roll cage and now planing on making a support to the suspension housing from the roll cage :D

Here are some pictures from the roll cage:

And here is the support to the suspension housing from the roll cage that I planed on doing
What do you think?

bprijs 21-04-2011 00:22

 This is very nice to see, keep on going the good work

2fast4you 22-04-2011 13:09

Here are some pictures of what I have finished yesterday :

DÁ-BRT 27-04-2011 06:02

My compliments it looks great again! Also the support for the rollcage to the suspension housing looks good, this will compensate for the bends in the cage.

Tjaap 27-04-2011 06:23

shouldn't the support go all the way to the housing though? welding it to the raintray won't do much imho.. the raintray is such flimsy material.

It will be going all the way to the housing but from the pictures you cant see
There is a place where the raintray and the housing come together and there I plan to weld the support ;)

2fast4you 16-05-2011 14:27

Some updates ;)

I finished the rear reinforcement

also finished the front reinforcement from the suspension housing to the roll cage

in the mean time I mange to find time to build this :

so I can move the shell in mu garage
and some shopping was done:
Rear 4 piston calipers from Shevrolet Camaro SS 2010+ for the rear axle

brake disc for the rear :

also bought H&R FRONT SWAY BAR VW GOLF 3 VR6 25MM
and the emblems:

steven16v 16-05-2011 15:20

Very nice!

Luukhedriks10 16-05-2011 16:01

When do you think your car is ready to ride?

VeeDubber 16-05-2011 19:32

What diameter are those brakes, they look massive on the pictures!

I think the calipers ride on 355mm disc
and the disc that I plan to use are 310mm

No it doesn't come in the way of the Haldex or the custom subframe part I just needed more space to work and in that space I plan on putting a special battery holder box that comes from a Golf R32 MK5.

2fast4you 29-05-2011 21:24

Finally finished the roll cage

also sorted out the pedals

and the most important thing for me, the gearbox mount

still some minor things to be done and then... off to the paint shop :P

DÁ-BRT 29-05-2011 22:04

Looks good, like the way you did with the engine / gearbox supports. Have you thought about the lower gearbox stabilizer?

I'm very curious about the result after painting.
