News from China, the Santana 3000

The Santana still lives, it has recently been facelifted once more, to meet the competition in the growing Chinese market. The Santana is China's best selling car.

never liked the chinese santana, but the headlights are nice. (kinda Bora like)
and the interior is quite comfortable looking..............

Not very shocking. It's oke, but no more. Nice pics btw.

Do you guys know if the HID headlights would fit my B4 (i35 facelift it's called in Europe I believe)?

http://forums.tdiclub.com/showflat....sb=5&o=&fpart=1

This is one of my friend over on TDIclub. He put E36 headlights.

It looks good, but not stock (if you look carefully there's a gap in between the hood and the lense).

The grille seems to be from the Jetta/Bora Mk4.

A weird looking car if you want my opinion.

I'm sure it's roomy inside though...

On what platform is it based on?

Stijn 02-06-2004 20:15

Those Chinese (or Brasilian) Santana's look like they're gonna fall apart anytime...

Rammstein 02-06-2004 20:16

I visited the website, the Santana is what was sold in the States as "Quantum".

Called Passat in Europe I believe...now I get it! :D

Tjaap 02-06-2004 20:34

nope. sold as santana in europe aswell

Rammstein 02-06-2004 20:41

Really, was it based on the Passat frame?

Tjaap 02-06-2004 20:45

i think something Audi.... not sure. there are a few santana owners here, i'll let them take this one

it was based on a Passat frame, and eventually they made it a member of the passat fam.
The shanghai passat isn't based on any euro or ami platform. so the possibility of not fitting is there.

The B2 Passat/Santana/Quantum was based on the B1 chassis, and was also used for the Audi 80. THe B2 front end (suspension, engine) is almost 100% similar to the B2 Audi 80 (aka 4000)

THe B1 was sold as hatchback and wagon in Europe, and this was carried on to the B2. 6 months after the introduction of the B2 Passat (1981), the sedan version was released, it was called Santana. In 1983 Santana production was started in both Brasil and China. In 1985 the European Passat range got a slight facelift, and at the same time the Santana was renamed Passat sedan.

In 1994, the Santana 2000 was introduced in both Brasil and China, the 2000 was jointly developed between the branches of Volkswagen. The Chinese 2000 was 10 cm (4") longer than the Brasilian version, the added length was found in the wheelbase.

The Santana 3000 is a further development of the 2000, so the 3000 is still based on the 1981 B2 Passat floorpan. I have not yet seen any confirmation that the 3000 will also be built in Brasil.

Hello, I'm newbie here and I have a Brasilian model of Santana (2000). It is a great model, and it doesn't fall apart (like Stijn said).... in matter of fact it's the opposite... (if you could see the streets that this car pass every day you wouldn't even THINK of that.... )...
And just another thing..... the model was produced in Brasil in 1991, and then in 1994 it was produced in China.....

Here is a pic of the 1991 model:

i think Stijn is choking on that comment with all those new brazilian members :p
