That was for Otti.

Chromosexual 22-08-2009 11:54

bwaaahahahahahah :D

otti 22-08-2009 17:35

i was hoping that it was not that....lol
hey pauly, how about some pics of the seats you are using??

Chromosexual 23-08-2009 06:11

hopefully in less than a month you will see.
that is, if I make it in the 78 to h20

Old Guy 23-08-2009 14:31

Only think positive thoughts.

Chromosexual 27-08-2009 22:25

Circumstances have forced my hand on this and I am pulling the plug on this project indefinitely.

I am not even sure if I will be attending H2O at this point - even though I paid rent for a 3 bedroom townhome already.

Thanks for playing along.

I really think the best bet for me is to finish this my own way. There is too much wrong with this car for it to come out in its current state. I am going to upset a few business owners personally & for that I am sorry. I am simply not in the 'place' to be able to finish this car to my specifications (and to my liking for that matter). Almost half a decade of moving this car from place to place & trying to work on it in a 2 car garage covered in trash makes doing anything literally impossible.

Fuck it.

Richard 27-08-2009 22:31

WTF..no!!!

Chromosexual 27-08-2009 23:08

i should post pics of the garage my car is located in. you would not say 'NO' ... you would say "GTFO of there"

Chromosexual 28-08-2009 02:47

Sorry guys............long ass day.........totally frustrated.

Old Guy 28-08-2009 03:16

Have some Rum, get Laid, get some Sleep. Come back tomorrow refreshed.

Chromosexual 28-08-2009 03:46

hahaha best advice EVER!

Marcski 28-08-2009 09:07

man, don't give up!

you have to attend H2O, with or without a car.. it will motivate yoU!

Chromosexual 28-08-2009 14:59

no, no i dont.
every year i go i get depressed.
stripped my goddamn cam gear bolt, found another one, threads must be stripped on the cam?? i only got a few days to work on this and (in the name of trying to get this bitch timed) i am only getting more frustrated.

I even went to bed and felt refreshed & ready to go.... :/

Lemme stop whining & try to find a solution...

Oh Tom.......................ring ring...

Chromosexual 28-08-2009 20:19

so it gets better
brand new cams are toast.

Old Guy 28-08-2009 21:26

:headshot:

Mine aren't new but I can get them sent out Monday AM if you want them.

Chromosexual 29-08-2009 01:30

Thanks Steve-O ;)
I am running out to CEPA to scoop up Tom's OE set in the AM.

jungli81 29-08-2009 19:49

wish you luck Paul

Chromosexual 30-08-2009 02:26

OE cams in. just need to play with timing again (i hope)
i couldnt find the damn TDC on my aftermarket flywheel
now i cant find the TDC mark on my distributor

wtf? am i blind?

more tomorrow :P

82dumptruck 30-08-2009 02:44

timing is a pain in the ass, good luck sir

Chromosexual 30-08-2009 22:11

Air:Fuel is completely out of wack - running lean as shit and to top it off my pops comes over and fucks up my distributor ....and gets mad at me coz i say to Tom (BC) "yeah i dunno what the fuck he is doing?!?"

oh the joy of working out of your parents garage....... fucking LAME

RubenD 30-08-2009 22:32

Take a spark plug out (first cilinder). Put for example the dipstick of the same motor in the hole and rotate engine until the dipstick sticks out the most -> TDC ;)

Then rotate the distributor in such a way that the first cylinder should fire. Bolt it down and try to start the motor ;)

i'm glad my mom just stays out of the garage haha

Chromosexual 31-08-2009 05:12

Ruben - I got TDC down - but thanks :)

My mom still wants to know why she cant park her Lincoln Towncar in the garage - a 2 car garage that has so much garbage in it my dad bought a shed to put everything in it... and yet still barely has enough space for a petite 78 Rabbit :)

..back in NW MA tonight... heading back to NE PA on Friday night... got 3.5 days to:

-get all the gauges wired up nicely
-pop in the new hatch glass
-figure out the idle issue

After doing all this over the past few days..
-500 miles round trip from NW MA to SE PA and back.
-picking up a refinished wheel at Perfect Metal
-destroying new cams by stripping the cam gear main bolt in attempt to find the flywheel's TDC (which apparently it doesnt have marked on it)
-driving 250 miles to pick up OE cams
-finding TDC with the piston trick on cyl #1
-replacing cams (properly & torqued to spec)
-noticing my distributor doesnt have a TDC mark either (WTF)
-turning over engine to hear it backfiring like a bitch ass mod on the vortex
-timing it according to TDC & playing around with idle screws.
-rechecking carbs synch
-calling Tom & Steve & Ugly Bastid & anyone else who would listen to me :)
-calling Tom a few thousand times more.

I am at a loss to think of what to do next to get this fucking thing to idle properly.

do you think it has to do with the carbs or is it something with the motor?

Chromosexual 31-08-2009 12:41

very good question!
unfortunately since i am so new to all of this i am relying upon Tom's (and anyone who is answers their phone - LOL) input :)

Big Caddy 31-08-2009 16:24

it's running lean.

adjusted the idle mixture screws out about 2+ turns

He has 50F8 idle jets I think.. or are they 55s?

trying to locate you the kit with a bunch of jets and stuff.

I'm supprised a stock motor would need 50+, but it's running way lean so its about all we can try.

Chromosexual 31-08-2009 16:31

shit think its 55s

J-9A-N 31-08-2009 16:43

Originally 45 DCOE webers do have 55 idle jets.
My 2.0 16v is running on 58 idle jets

Make sure that the aircorrection screws (under the white caps 4X)
are all closed.
Mine where (even with new webers)all open.

Big Caddy 31-08-2009 16:57

amazing how the 2.0 16v can differ with jets.

I just downsized mine to 45F8s and I'm running 12.5 air fuel. I have 288 cams too.

Big Caddy 31-08-2009 18:43

Set ignition timing at lowest idle speed (below) 1000rpms
Set it to 6* advance
If it is hardly idling, adjust idle speed screw to increase idle speed but not over (1000)
Check Air/Fuel gauge
if it's above 14 you are lean, below.. rich
Mixture screws should start about 1.5 turns out.
2 or more turns and you need larger idle jets
less then 1 you need smaller idle jets
once you have the right jets you adjust your mixture screws evenly and dial it in at around 12-13 air fuel ratio. It will run with 10ish, but it will go through lots of gas.

once you get it rolling you can start to adjust the main jets. at WOT check your gauge.. lean or rich?? adjust your jets acordingly. 145 jets are leaner then 160s etc.
we'll get to that once it's mobile.

Chromosexual 31-08-2009 19:06

damn steven@pierce sounds like a child molester :P

Tjaap 31-08-2009 19:16

big caddy. That is very well explained. You should write your own damn haynes manual.

Big Caddy 31-08-2009 20:48

maybe I should..............hmmm.

carb tuning. one page and your done.. not 85 pages of BS and one page of useful info in the middle like most carb books.

Old Guy 01-09-2009 00:32

King Tom!
:own:

Or start a "what jets do you run in your Webers" thread.

rabfan 01-09-2009 02:44

Damn man, sounds like you are not having any fun at all Paul! Sorry buddy. It will all be better at H2O. BTW Tom I am going to make it this year.

Chromosexual 03-09-2009 01:20

new jets should arrive by friday so I can swap these out on saturday.
i know how i am spending my 4 day weekend ..... yeesh :P
