that's the first pic i've seen of your type3 ever.....

PerL 14-03-2005 20:52

It is? Wow.... I posted it in the aircooled forum on Vortex when I bought it, but didnt get any replies. Have a look at my galleries instead ;)

The 1970
The 1973

Both cars are in a somewhat sad shape right now, but the 70 will probably be on the road this summer. I'm not restoring it, rather doing some kind of custom with primer paint and 17" wheels. I just need to patch up the rust holes, paint the car, and put in new brake lines.

The 73 needs a proper restoration, I dont know when I will get the time for that. It needs a lot of work, among the work that is needed is to put in rust free heater channels (which I have in storage, personally brought home from California)

Well, there are a 'view' (;)) type 3 owners around here, maybe you'll have more luck :)
It also fills up the international aircooled section ;)

just curious, but what type of 17" are you going to use ??
Most 17'teeners are 7J wide, and you don't have enough room in the frontwheelarces :(
You can use Tourwreck 6,5x17 steelies, but rumors are that those wheels came in
Beemers pcd,and that's 5x120 ....

I'm using Momo GT2 in 7.5x17 ET35, and from what I've been told on both Shoptalkforums.com and Germanlook.com, they will fit both in the front and the rear.

I don't think there's any problem at the rear, but at front it's a different story,
unless you want the turning circle of an ocean liner :D
User-x his ride is running C2 8J's (et52) at the back with 205/45,and up front he's using 6J (et52)
with 175/50x16,but his turnig circle is -even with these small front wheels and tyres- quiet big ...

btw,his car is dropped at the rear one outer spline, and up front to outer splines ... what are you planning ??

PerL 15-03-2005 14:32

I am planning on dropping it a little bit (2 splines up front, 1 rear), but only after the wheels are fitted, to see how much's needed.
