Looking for a set that I dont have to bore out the hubs or do anything but slap on rubber, bolts, hubcaps.
Anyone have any clues if VW ever made em in 16's?

No, they haven't.
In the Netherlands people usually use Opel (Vauxhall, Holden, GMC) steelies or Mini's I believe.
Yup, New Mini winter steelies are 16" 4x100, you just have to widen the centerhole from 56,1 to 57,1

Does this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unique-Series-83-Black-Steel-Wheels-16-x6-5-4x100mm-BC-Set-of-4-/330808448072?forcev4exp=true&forceRpt=true) do the trick?

Huge centrebore, use vauxhall rims...With a bigger centrehole (bore it out)
So they will fit snuggly on your wheelhub, its going to shake if you havnt got them centred straight.
Or you could try to find Renault Megane 6,5x16" ET49 steel rims. Centerbore (60,1) is bigger than VW, but still 4x100.

Don't see the centerbore as a very big problem though on steelies...

You can't centre the wheel on the bolts only....
Its going to shake your bolts loose at some time.
