it took me a while to upload the frst half of the pix (sorry), but i am gonna start my travel report here and now :thumbup:
from the first time i saw the c2c webside that lucky put up i knew i just had to do it (i think it was about march 09)
so told my brother that i would need a co pilot and asked him if he would be interrested.
at first he was like: oh no, i can never affford that!
after some brute calculations on my budged and my ablity to cut out "real life" i decidet to make him the offer:
you have to save up 1000$ for pocket money, i´ll pay everything else!
he was like :D and so the decision was made to go to the US.
i saved on everything, even food for 4 months and drove my beloved mk1 from norway 1000 miles to winterstorage in germany

2 days later we took the planes from berln-frankfurt and then frankfurt-seattle (all together 14 hours).
we arrverd safely in seattle where had planned to try to rent a vw, at the airport then the "+ߧ hit the fan: non of the rental companys had a car :eek:
none, nada, niema, nitshewo, garnichts :mad: :redface: :confused:
with no ride we took a indish guys cab and he drove us to the first of many motels on this vacation, of course he imediately sr##ed us 20$ for 5 miles driving.
hotel room was smelly but ok, like most of the motels on our trip.
we began exploring seattle:

after some walking around we found a avis station where we took the 1 ( ! ) :wow: available car.

we met simon again in the evening and took us out drinking and partying, he took so many pix that we felt that we dont need to..

we drove to spokane bought a new map got a steak (i mistook horseraddish for sour cream) with free nostrels we drove on and arrived in
kalispell in the middle of the night....
next morning we managed after some hours of calling and wondering (a little crying was involved too) to make contact with stanton (handsome bastid)
after some searching we actually managed to find the place and lucky and the others :-D

we were crusing along a beautiful lake and took a stop at a gas station an lucky asked if everyone was good on fuel?
was wondering that too but thought she asked about fuel for the way back the same way we came, wich was not what she meant-i found out a lttle later...
when we do "a little cruise" in germany we drive like 1 hour around the city in a convoi to see and be seen.
but not here! this is montana :wink:

we went to a bar in the middle of nowhere and took some pics and some beers (only the co drivers of course)

we drove all around a lake of the size of germany (a little cruise my azz) and went back to the shop where we prepared for the
crazy karaoke sendoff party.
1. i have never traveled that far for a bar before
2. i have never seen a bar that empty on people before
3. i have never seen a evening developing in such a nice party after these circumstances
4. the party was defenatly made by the fellowship of all people
really good times but we have been too buisy drinking to take pics of it

we took a good night sleep in hardin and next morning we had a pont of big irrtation:
while loadng my luggage into the trunk the keys fell out of my pocket into the trunk just in the moment when
i closed the hatch, i thought no problem went to the front to unlock the trunkld from the inside...
the moment i touched the doorhandle the car locked itself :shock:
since avis has the keyes together with a wire unopenable we had no choce but to call a towing company to open the door.
the guy showed up and opened the car in less than 5 min. bill 65$ :pissed:
we took our breakfast of champions ( 7 whopper jr for 7$) and drove on where we soon arrived at the state border

there we begin to notice how inventive people are to get peoples money...
the entrance to mount rushmore is free but the parking costs 10$, but you can use the ticket with the vehicle you are parking there for a whole year :down:
who is going to go there more than once a year and has still the parking ticket???

we drove on through south dakota and wanted to take pics, but there was nothing to take pixs of :oops:
only corn crobs as far as the eye could see...
we drove untl we got really tired and stopped in mitchell to sleep in the typical slightly smelly motel
and took the dayly evening meal (beer) until ths point we found that the bud lite was ok when you drink it fast enough

I would have drank about 2 6-packs a night to relax after all that driving. I'd love to do that road trip sometime.

we drove into chicago went up the tower down again and out of chicago in under 90min....
took a place to sleep snce we couldnt manage to reach steve´s (old guy) place, too bad
we slept in gary, really irritated by the friggin toll roads where we spend all together 25$.
we also saw the crazyest road sing ever, it said:
-hit a road worker 10000$ fine+ 14 years prison!
i need to get sober now....until tomorrow
hahaha.. no hitting roadworkers then... not good on the holiday budget.

when we have been in chicago we talked to our buddy setve on the phone and he told us that he had a friend comming to his place and that they had planned to head out to ocean city 7.00am so after all this driving we didnt manage to be on time and meet up to drive convoi after all ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
we decidet to make a fast run and try to catch up on the road.

we arrived in ocean city about 12.00pm and i had driven 806 miles and was tired like crazy.
but we had to meet up with the other guys so we went to paul´s (chromosexual) place where people where hard at work to get drunken..
too sad rj´s (rabfan) fotobucket is over bandwith he had some pics from the evening where we somehow managed to drink until 5am, even pauly passed out on us.

and that was when the mainstreet was already full of cars, the traffic jam was absurd because when 250-300 cars want to leave a parking lot at exactly the same time, you can emagine what happened.

nope, all i saw of OCMD was the DCI house, the ocean (in the middle of the night :rolleyes: ), Wawa for breakfast, Pickles Pub and a couple of other bars on the boardwalk... :D
Had a fantastic time though, and every car drove by at least a couple of times, so never missed anything

first drinking at every bar on the boardwalk later at "the clam chowder" 10 beers for 22$ (inclouding tip)
things got really funny, we took the bus home where i tryed too hook up with some girls, but my accent was getting out of control....
we where partying on pauls balkony and had a blast until the police showed up and threatened to trow paul into jail...
some of the guys went home and we where where talking a lttle more
pauli was getting all " no i do not trailer the car to h2o! " and we had to talk him into it!!
next day H2Oi !!!!!
we got up early and went to h2o unloaded the car and polished it again until we were happy with it

on our way out the guys from the grilled chicken stand at h20 offered a tray of chicken for 20$,
i tryed to get the price down bur ariel just payed it and everyone who was still there grabed a piece.
of courese there was much more chicken to eat and since everyone was stuffed we decided to take it home.
on our way from the car to the appartment we saw a woman walking her dog and decidet to offer her some good chicken.

we stayed overnight in mempihs and i had one of the most dissapointing expirences of the whole vacation:
since i am a jack daniels fan i really looked forward to buy a big bottle of tennessee whiskey in tennessee...
it was even more expensive 50 miles from the destillery than 5500 miles in germany. someone care to explain that?!

since the jacky was too expensive we decided to grab som captain morgan captains reserve after rj´s recomendation, and a 12 pack of coors (our first)
and got happy. we really liked the coors since it was much closer to our german beer than the miller lite.

we slept in flagstaff and had pasta for the first time ....and beer!
the only thing that was crazy in flagstaff was the trains that run through the town and warn/horn at every crossing about every 5 minutes.

on the map it didnt look too far of the interstate either so we drove off.

AND THEN THE BIGGEST BUMMER OF THE WHOLE TRIP!!!
we came to a big parking lot where we HAD to park our car to walk to a store to purchase tickets.
43$ each for a 10min busride to the rim of the grand canyon and 29,90 extra each if we want to go on the skywalk.
on top of that you where not allowed to take your OWN camera with you so that you would have to buy photos expensive of them.
what the heck???? it would have been about 170$ to see something nature made itself, that is a MAJOR RIP OFF!
my brother and i agreed that we would not throw our money away like that and drove off, sadly the only pics we have from the grand canyon are these here we took when we unlawful (!) stopped on the roadside pretending we had car trouble...

unfotunatly did we forget to charge the camera for more pics of that day, so nothing to show from our visit in the redwoods and a race we had on the twisty roads vs a black suv, that was fun my bro was almost wetting himself when i tryed to find the limits of the corolla. ESP went on 4 times and boath the suv and me drove until the tires screamed. too bad the camera was dead i really would have loved to have a vid of that.
the big V8 of the SUV didnt help against my driver skills and he couldnt loose us,

we drove until it was night and reached san francisco, but this is going to be telled tomorrow
as said we arrived san francisco in the middle of the night wich turned out to be a major pan in the azz,
all motels full, all hotels expensive!
we could get a relatively cheap room far from downtown for only 85$per night!
i thanked no and drowe downtown where the average hotelroom was 150-200$, n the end we endet up almost at the golden gate bridge for 90$/night...
was pizzed off but at least we would not have to drive long to the tourist traps.
in the morning my bro decided its time for the stickers to come off (we made it from coast to coast)
the car had never been washed only the windscreen was cleaned every two days, and it showed

in seattle we hooked up with simon (2mAn) again and had a party in the evening, simon took a lot of pctures but is moving to a new place at the moment so no pics of that at the moment....
we went to a carwash but it didnt help so i went in again and told the cashier that it didnt work so we got a second car wash for free, it was no good either but we decided that this has to be good enough.
we delivered the car back to the airport where our flight back to germany left 3 hours later.

my comments:
we boath loved the time we had in the us, didnt mind living of dollar burgers to much (favourite 1$ burger: whopper jr)
enjoied the time we had on party with all the nice people we met on our way.
are glad that we did it, and defenately coming back but dont want to drive that far anymore, since we wanted to spend more time with our friends and in the case of my bro: more swimming! lol
loved the burgers at five guys, not cheap but good!
the people we met all have been genuinly friendly (with one exeption at the dci house) and we will hopefully meet all our new (and old) friends again next year at h2o or on our way there.
we disliked that many places only care aout their profit, that the co driver can not drink beer , crazy parking fees in the downtown areas.
the indish motel mafia ( i swear, when a place s called ...INN it s run by inidsh people who will call to their other INN´s to raise the price because there are some guys trying to get a good deal!) and worst of all if you want to buy something you will have to use your car since the disances are too big to walk, in some places there are not even sidewalks....
THE 2010TOYOTA COROLLA
after driving the car twice across the states i belive i am qualifed to give my opinon...
the pros:
-fuel economy was really good no questions
-the base price in the us is cheap too
-build quality is ok no tecnical issiues
-luggage space is suficcient for two adulds+beer
-stereo has a good sound and gets loud enough
the cons:
-15 hp more would make the car a lot better since the cruise control downshifts on every little uphill, wich is not only uneconomic but also loud.
-automatic gearbox makes a jerky upshift after the kickdown wich feels weird
-suspension is too soft
-cd-player is really sensitive and didnt want to olay half our cd´s
-the steering wheel doesnt come close enought to the driver to have a comfortable driving position
-the angle of the footrest is uncomphy and feels as it is in the wrong place
-everything feels cheap, switches, materials everything you touch feels better in my mk4
-strong wind noise fron boath front doors
-fuel cell only holds 11 gallons, too little for longer trips
