hi new here, this my my mk1 been doin it for about a year or so, all done after work hours and and some odd weekends(not many)!

came into my ownership looking like this

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/8f_12.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/9a_3.jpg

after a day or so started the body work wanted to get the bay sorted first
alot of stripping cleaning grinding patching welding later

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/PICT0099Medium-1.jpg

a few more and its in fresh paint
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/DSC00106.jpg

to remove brakes from the bay area in fabed this up
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/PICT0137Medium-2.jpg
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/PICT0107.jpg
as the wiring on old golfs is crap thought id start a fresh and also hide all brake piping

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/DSC00214-1.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/DSC00222Medium-1.jpg

arches werent all that great and wanted to extend them a little to get the new wheels under, so got cutting

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/DSC00088Medium-1.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/DSC00107Medium-2.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/DSC00111Medium-2.jpg

spent ages trying to find a small light rear panel at resonable money but nothing came up, so thought id do my own version

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/DSC00014.jpg

while I was at I thought I might aswell add a bit of contraversy in to it!!

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/DSC00019.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/DSC00024Medium-1.jpg

inbetween all that I was sorting the engine painting polishing etc

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/mk1%20gti/DSC00318.jpg

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/mk1%20gti/DSC00322.jpg

gearbox painted

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/mk1%20gti/DSC00298-1.jpg

had aproblem with corrosion on the box and the paint started lifting so had it blasted and just cleared over the finish

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/mk1%20gti/DSC00482Medium.jpg

lump back in bay
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/mk1%20gti/DSC00489Medium.jpg

also all chassis components were blasted and either powder coated or chromed, I had to narrow the rear beam by nearly 90mm in total to allow the wheels to get the correct look I was after

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/mk1%20gti/DSC00480Medium.jpg

lights all wired new bumpers grill all chassis components renewed and p/coated

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/mk1%20gti/1mkfrontMediumcopy.jpg
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n3/k33ts/mk1%20gti/IMG_2977Medium.jpg

recent pictures finished at players uk came away with praised mk1 and pvw best of show.

immaculate car.. Really fancy your way of working; just doing your own thing by creating a swallow yourself. The engine really deserves a compliment; very clean/neat engine bay.

I absolute love this car... It was a long time ago that someone built a mk1 that makes my heart go faster...

Swallow part, hate it... sorry... doesn't look like original and in my opinion, while you were at it, you should have done better! no hard feelings...

Wow... what a ride!

thanks for the compliments mate, dont know how you can say you hate it, just because it dont look exactly the same as an original i think it looks pretty funky, i could never get it exactly right from a big light panel.

You pulled of your car in an amazing way. I love it.

Since you shortned the rear beam around 90mm, did you modify the inside arch?
do you have any other picture from the process of the beam?

looks good in the PVW ;)
