obviously we can't search any of our canadian/na classifieds for 'em..

& ho-ly shit. at those prices, maybe we'll get 2 or 3 or 4 this year...

because he works for cbsa/canada border services agency (recent name change if you've ever heard of it called canada customs and recenue agency/ccra) - he knows the low down on who ships what from where for the lowest cost, and/or can easily find out - because it's him that people have to declare the value of their vehicles for import to/shipping costs/all receipts etc etc when they bring cars in (well, not JUST him, any customs inspector) - so ya, we'd be able to at least source a decently priced logistics firm that doesn't have a reputation for smuggling & getting customers shit seized.

but yes, you're right - s&h costs will be a factor in which one(s) to buy, if any.

So get a large container and ship two of them .. easier said then done but ok ..
At least one of the Golf Country will pay for the other when u sell it in Canada so one is almost for free

bingo... and then again & again.

or that's the idea anyways.

IF we do a first run and it works out okay, there may be the potential for a small finders fee to be paid out in the future to assist w/ arrangements from your side of the pond...

roro = roll on, roll off car cargo shippers... no containers, usually = more cars in less space on vacant spots of car deck ships = lower cost than containers.

i'm still working out a proposed compensation plan with my brother for those who assist. yes, there'll be a few "euros" in it for someone. (by euros i mean currency, not wannabe american kids off the vortex!) on that note, what would you consider as fair compensation for varies levels of involvement in the finding, acquisition, and shipping arrangements of vehicles? (i will make a couple of local calls to auto brokers to see what it would cost us to have them do it)

on the note of who's financing most of this and what he does for a living, and the fact that he's big enough to kick most of, if not all of your asses:p, if anyone so much as thinks it would be funny to put so much as a poppyseed in a vehicle, or container, bound for canada with our name(s) on it that costs us cold hard cash to have searched/investigated, seized goods, or my bro's job - your ass is considered uberfucked to the fullest extent of international law. dead serious, this is not a joke - i don't mean to come off as a jerk in any way - but we don't want to clown around with international trade shipments and such is all.

he's at work right now so i can't exactly fire him an online message, so, i'll talk to him over the coming days and see where his thought processes are on this - as well as collect your input from your corner of the globe.

Wow..

Better NOT buy a dutch vehicule.. There should be a microgram of weed in every dutch car..

Since I don't know a member here that's selling his country (I'm not even aware of any owners on the forum), it'll probably be a 'second-hand' on the market car.. and you never know what the former owner transported in it...

Ah well, vacuumclean the interior, check under the seats and boot-foor.. give the engine bay a good ones-over with the karcher,. it'll be spotless and clean within the hour..

ah yes, a good cleaning should be required too.

oh, and whomever is the very best negotiator of the lot will definitely need to be on board... dutchy, who's your man??:p

for "vw sellers" this person will have to be quite friendly, charismatic & humourous - in order to get a decent price.

for "non vw sellers" this person will have to be absolutely rutheless with a wicked poker face... they'll need to be able to devalue the vehicle in the mind of the owner as much as possible. (well, you know - it IS just an old commuter vw... my sister picked hers up for about half that price!... hrmm, there's a spot of rust starting on the fender - you never know where's next with these old cars... wow - you mean you DON'T have all the maintenance records???) etcetera - these non vw sellers, even if they're little old ladies or poor college students, need to BELIEVE their car isn't worth what they're asking.

i'm not saying these things to be a scumbag, but rather, to make this venture economically/financially feasible from our end of the arrangement - considering the following:

euro = about 1.7 times the cdn dollar
s&h = pricey
duty
taxes
various other costs of importation

all = quite expensive old dubs & thus the higher the price we pay, the worse off we are on the risk factor.

there *may* also be an added euro$ bonus to whomever negotiates amazing prices - we'll see what we can work out.

nah, it's all good... but i hope you remember what happened to taylor's rallye and how long that took...

work the transition/shipping out to the finest detail.... the car is just a small detail of that.

well, yeah - a lot more than others who's screen names are relatively new to me. (ie volksforum.com only)

i never heard a peep about "taylor's rallye" - what's the scoop?

yeah yeah - i'm a commerce geek and my brother's a customs inspector who deals with car importation/valuation/siezing as one of his specialties at work - so we'll be sure to get things down to a T... the devil's in the details, i know that much.

well the rallye story was that taylor (DCI pres.) wanted a rallye in the US.. he had one bought in germany by mr_lsd and Stijn and it ended up in stijn's garage... where it stayed for more then a year because he couldn't get the shipping done from the US..

He ended up flying to holland to drive an uninsured, unregistered car from Holland to england so it could be shipped to the US....

i'm just saying... think this trough and make sure you have the right connections before you go down with this....

furthermore, you might want to talk to Cullen... not only does he have a Country, but he deals with europe/US shipping all the time.. not sure if he could help you, but it might be worth a shot

ah, i see.

i'll email cullen sometime.

also, my bro being in the job he's in, he can see which companies ship from where to where... and we know some longshoremen too - so they can tell us who to use, who not to use.

the who not to use companies are the ones that have been nailed for contraband in the past and thus have many of their containers checked, especially for first time overseas transporters (like us) - a cost which canada border services agency (used to be canada customs) passes on 100% to the consumer! adding a grand or two canadian to the cost of shipping a can - as they tear apart the walls/floors/ceilings of the can and dust it for narcotics etc.
