Post 2008 Geneva Motor Show - Golf Variant 4Motion

Geneva Motor Show 2008: Golf Variant 4Motion - world premiere
Total grip thanks to full-time all-wheel drive:
Golf Variant starting up immediately in a 4Motion version

New Golf Variant 4Motion being launched with an economical TDI

All-wheel drive Golf Variant TDI that handles 1,500 kilograms of trailer load

Wolfsburg, 04 March 2008 Effective immediately, Volkswagen is also offering the Golf Variant with full-time all-wheel drive. The 4Motion system is coupled to a fuel-efficient and torque-strong TDI with 77 KW / 105 PS. The Golf Variant TDI 4 Motion is shifted by a manual six-speed gearbox as standard equipment. Power distribution between the front and rear axles is regulated by an electronically controlled Haldex clutch. This clutch, integrated directly on the rear axle has a very compact construction and enables variable power distribution. In extreme situations up to 100 percent of the propulsive force can be transferred to the rear wheels. As a result, the Golf Variant TDI 4Motion is able to offer the best possible grip even on a snow-covered road. This also applies across the board: Even on a dry roadway the full-time all-wheel drive improves cornering forces and thereby contributes to gains in driving fun and active safety.

The Golf Variant TDI 4Motion accelerates from a stop to 100 km/h in 12.9 seconds and is 185 km/h fast. Equipped with a standard particulate filter, the all-wheel drive station wagon consumes a low 6.0 liters diesel per 100 kilometers.

Up to 1,500 kilogram trailer load
Appealing to all drivers towing trailers: besides offering benefits in terms of excellent driving behavior, all-wheel drive is also a boon to trailer towing. The Golf Variant 4Motion can handle a grade of up to twelve percent while towing 1,500 kilograms on its hitch - this is 100 kilograms more than its front-wheel drive counterpart.

The 4Motion all-wheel drive system can be ordered on all equipment lines (Trendline, Comfortline, Sportline). The car’s basic safety equipment includes six airbags and the ESP electronic stabilization program. Integrated as standard equipment here is trailer stabilization, which avoids dangerous trailer swerving. As an option, the Golf Variant can be ordered with features that include a harsh roadway chassis and ground clearance increased by 20 millimeters. Also available as a special option: powertrain shielding, which protects the engine and underbody from branches and stone impact.
