Default Canadian makes his own Hummer H1

As he states in this topic, he cant afford to buy a H1, plus he loves Ford trucks (Hummer is GM and uses Chevy parts), so he decided to build his own, with a $15.000 CAN budget. He started with a rusty Ford F150 pickup and a stack of sheetmetal... Really impressive work!

I read through the thread (yeah, I was seriously bored) and learned that he found blueprints of the H1 to help him.

Diesel V8s are rare in North America, buses like that one is one of the few places to find one. The smaller F-pickups werent sold with that engine there, even though Europe got it in the F-series.

whcih brings me to something else.. when i was in Norway and sweden i found that US cars are quite common... why is that? i understand that 4X4's come in quite handy higher up north, but even cars like the bigger 70's and 80's station wagons were quite common..

I have no idea why they are more common here than in other parts of Europe. Sweden is the country outside North America with most American cars per citizen. Not that many here n Norway, even though they hold a certain popularity among many people.

I see several US cars or trucks every day. Mostly trucks like Suburbans, Tahoes, Excursions, vans, or pickups. There's even a black Caddy Escalade EXT in my town! Then again, one of the world's 19 Ferrari FXXs reside here as well.

so i wasn't seeing things... must be history related... rest of europe was dominated by US cars untill the 50's then the french and italian kinda took their place cause there was a need for cheap small cars, maybe they never came to sweden, or swedes simply had no need for small cheap cars?

I thought most diesels there were straight-6's? V8's are more fun though

Well, you're in Canada, eh?

Rare in USA, in the typical pickup trucks owned as private vehicles, that's what I meant to say. You're obviously driving an F350 (or bigger) and that's a different story, but you cant get a Diesel in an F150 or F250 in, say, Texas or California, can you?
