Idea on Brake interlock

I posted an note earlier, mentioning that I cannot get my 1999 Passat out of park because the brake interlock will not disengage.

Would it work to unhook the battery, and let the computer power down. Then hook it back up?

Just to let you know we're reading this...but I have no clue. My knowledge stops when points were discontinued
