Safe Easy Rust Removal
While cleaning up one of my web servers, I came across some pics from and old DIY I wrote some time ago.
I recreated it today. Enjoy. http://www.mk1dubz.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31 |

So basically, you immerse the metal in water, hook up a battery charger's positive side to a conductor separate in the water, and the negative side to the part itself? Hmm, guess I gotta try this out
I read of another trick, to use vinegar. I've tried this myself, but it didn't work out as shown in this link. I guess my vinegar may have been dilluted. http://www.cookhaus.co.uk/vinegar/index.htm

you need to use SUPER WASHING SODA, and set the charger to no more than 2 amps. clearly it worked as seen in the pics. |

Good method, much used by archeologists! Rust is basically an electric process and this method reverses it. The use of sode will increase the conductivity of water. Be sure to use soda since normal salt will also release chlorine gas (NaCl)
Be sure to vent the place since the charger will split the water in both oxygen and hydrogen! Last edited by Henk_Pigo : 04-03-2009 at 23:52. |
