Update

Today I tried on the body before I start working on it.
I had to check if I needed some modifications after the chassi-rebuild.. and yes, I need some mods

After narrowing the frontsuspension 4" the strut towers touches the body.
I suspected this before lifting the body, even if the word on the street says you don't have to if you "only" do the 4" beam.
No biggy.. small mods needed.

I also need to modify the rear to be able to mount the body without removing the cup-bar. Also i minor modification

The body is "hovering" 8cm over the chassi..hehe

So... you need to add a 8cm drop to this (+ 3cm drop with the right tires)

..and 3 cm additional drop (+2cm drop with the right tires) in front

I didn't get the right look and feel but I was able to measure everything I needed before starting with the body.

Let the bodywork start

*Big update*

A lot was done this week. Started working on the body.

Still looking good, but I found out that the left rear corner has been changed.
It was not 100% in place so I am going to change both corners and the rear panel.

I also found this. Previous owner had tried to hide this under some paint

Friday the parts I ordered from California wednesday arrived. Pretty fast delivery to Norway as always, 3 days!!

Yesterday I cut out all the rust from the channel. Luckely the heater channel was as good as new

And after som work it was finished

Also started on the rear. Cut out the rear panel...

As you can see, the right corner wasn't to good

The first corner changed and this time it's where it should be. It was a helluva job to get it right *puuh*

And today everything was in place and the rear complete again

As you can see, I also got my new bumpers today
I am going to modify the brackets a bit, more info 'bout that later.

Then I started cleaning this Almost ready to weld it in place.

First layer with bondo..

That's it for today. I'll continue working with this tomorrow...

I see that the Dollar value is also good in norway
I did a porsche 912 last month and it was cheaper to get parts from the US than from annywere else.

Jepp They do.
Some of it is because of bad repaires from previous owner.

Anyways.. now everything is gone and good shape again.

Nice work, nice work! I still think that is one excellent Bug body, I've seen FAR worse and considered them 'okay'

Dollar rate is bliss, my eBay account is redhot

Workin' in the sun

Sunny in Oslo this weekend. So I took the car out of the garage and worked outside instead of inside the garage.

Started working on my inner arches in front. Need some more space for the front suspention after narrowing it.

Instead of just cutting out a part I sliced it and hammered it in shape. This is a picture early in the process.

Gasfiller finally gone. Last layer with bondo is on. Finito baby!

Started some cleaning of useless holes in the inner arches

Then some REAL fun. After modifying the inner arches etc.. I was ready to try on the body again. I had a BIG smile in my face when I sat down behind the car an saw this FAT ass!!!!!!! YEEAH BABY!!

Still, the car will be a bit lower with the correct tires..

REALLY love this thread, do enjoy your work! First saw your work lowering your cabbie, man you don't do things halfway !

I am currently also installing air in my mark 1 convertible, if you like you can see some pictures at: http://www.golfcabrio.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=21157. For more pictures go to mijnalbum.nl: http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Album=BX78XOAM.

Keep up the good work, I only have one complaint: you have us waiting for pictures for more than a week now, this is not acceptable

*Update*

Well guys, here's some pics from the last week.
I was supposed to paint the car inside this weekend but I was so damn busy at work so I got a bit delayed

But, now it is ready for some paint tomorrow
I need to mask the windows etc. and then I'm good to go..
I am almost ready for the paint outside. Just need to modify the bracket holes for the bumpers

Tested some chrome for my steering wheel, but it didn't fit.
So tomorrow I have to hunt down a correct steering wheel.

I ended the evening by doing some mods to my speedo. This is the original..
and tomorrow morning I will post the result

And then it is a success. I think that when you do a modification, ordinary people shouldn't see any difference, but entusiasts should see/feel that something is done.

I got some more mods like this so just stay tuned

FINALLY PAINT!

I finished the first two layers with primer tonight (inside the car)
Very pleased with the result. I took some time before I got the perfect roughness in the primer. Correct mixture of paint/thinner and adjustment of the paint gun.
