Mk2 Golf 8v into 20v, England
Hi, i thought i'd better sign up as i've been looking at this forum for a while and the facebook page and thought i'd share my journey on my MK2.
well i picked up a 1991 8v back 2 years ago. I drove it about for some time and then decided on some maintenance and a change to 20v. i've skipped a lot but here's some of the journey. The front drivers side wishbone joint was looking a bit sorry for itself :o so ive added on some S2 twin pots changed the charge pipe setup for that of a k04 new genuine mounts: got it all in the car a couple of nights of work and its back like this: just loosly put in the new subframe while i clean up the engine bay and the old power steering rack the new daily :violin: also ordered a new trackslag exhaust , the slanty tip one to look OEM. its no longer my daily driver but also not a show car this was from 2017 Volksfest Cooling sorted, plumbed, bled..ready to drive! now for some dry weather painted my intercooler pipes and fitted a new larger radiator. Just waiting on the fan bracket so that i can add the fan and fill it up with coolant again. Cooling sorted, plumbed, bled..ready to drive! now for some dry weather Currently awaiting some parts so that i can refurbish the rear axle, brakes and anything else on the rear. also splitting the BBS and going wider with those. thanks for looking |
Nicely done and great color!

Calipers looking clean. what type of paint have you used? Spray/Brush on?
|
Quote:

very worth while, great fun aslong as you dont start aiming for big bhp..keep it simple, keep it realistic and enjoy :) |
If the weight stays around a tonne any hp up to 200 feels very nimble I'd reckon.
|
the Trackslag exhaust hass been so good to listen to lately, echos so nicely up through the gorge

Cool ride mate !!
|
Testing out the new smart phone camera and im happy with the vast improvement over the old Galaxy S5 i had for 6 years!
|
Very cool..! What is it like to drive? Comfortable on moterways?
|
Quote:
it's very quick and responsive. the ride height is low enough to look nice, but high enough to deal with poor roads. Motorway is fine, but the 02j box revs a bit high in 5th at around 100kph, which i assume is the same on any 02j car |
i am loving this new phone!
Went out in the car yesterday after a quick clean and some weekend maintenance, the car feels really dialled in, the handling is lovely, the power delivery is great.. still need to go get the car booked in for some winter paint love. i want to get the engine stripped out again and painted as i never did that when putting it in, also the gearbox soda blasted and painted. couldn't help but take more photos on the way home from a little met last night |
Nice update and very great pictures of the car!!

thank you :) |
That colour is superb !!
Stunning ride mate.. |
Quote:
thank you :) it needs a new windscreen and a re-spray on the front end due to 30 years of stone chips.. but that will come in time |

You're welcome.. It's a hobby ride, no rush :D |

some douche decided to break my windscreen.. so this has happened: IMG_20200528_210657 by Laxadams, on Flickr IMG_20200530_173635 by Laxadams, on Flickr IMG_20200530_135418 by Laxadams, on Flickr IMG_20200530_135413 by Laxadams, on Flickr IMG_20200604_154915 by Laxadams, on Flickr IMG_20200607_115718 by Laxadams, on Flickr IMG_20200607_115559 by Laxadams, on Flickr IMG_20200619_134749 by Laxadams, on Flickr IMG_20200619_140827 by Laxadams, on Flickr wiring loom has been updated, inspected and wrapped up so its neat and tidy 2020-07-02_10-20-52 by Laxadams, on Flickr Off to the body shop to have some work done, mainly thr rust in the window which is minimal, but also having the engine bay, bonnett and wings painted as well as sone rust i found in the floor pan on the passenger side. should be nice when its done and back with me. also thinking about a k04 upgrade and map to suit |
Nice work!
How random for someone to break your windscreen though... crazy people. :screwy: |
wire bundles arrived for replacement of a few loom wires end to end, extending the MAF was the big one but deceided to replace some tired wires anyway.
carpet under lay also got picked up, its a backed wool, so it should do the job nicely |
Got excited and made up the replacement under lay bits lastnight, just used the old parts and stencilled around them.
I used some insulation wool that i have to replace the thin and flimsy insulation where the dash sits I used spray on contact adhesive in patches to secure the exhaust tunnel insulation and onto the dash top. if the dash makes any rattling sounds i'll be amazed! firewall insulation cut and i'll put that in today, then i can get the heater installed. Not sure if i should order up and fit the window now or have it be one of the last things i do |
Wow nice work!
|
That looks great! No more rattling sounds now
