MK2 VR6 help

hi there all

i'm after some advice on doing a VR6 conversion to my 1989 MK2 GTi

i have heard that if the car is after 1990 then the wiring just plugs in ??

but mine is before 1990 , so what do i need to change ?

is it possable ??

gonna go yo the uk and buy a complete MK3VR6 strip all that i want and scrap the rest

sidecarphil 18-01-2009 11:36

also i will be adding the dashboard to my MK2

Bertus_01 18-01-2009 17:01

If you will add the mkIII vr6 dashboard in your MkII, then you won't need to change you're wiring.. just put the whole MKIII wiring in you're mkII...

sidecarphil 18-01-2009 18:08

cool that's what i wanted to hear

i want to use the MK3 stearing column because it is adjustable , with the hazard light switch on the column too

does any one know what type of job fitting a MK3 dash to a MK2 is ??

just bolt in or is it a lot of fabrication and cutting ??

GerardMkIIVR6 19-01-2009 09:43

A lot off fabrication believe me ;)

sidecarphil 19-01-2009 19:58

have you done it ??

i want some thing a little differant

but possable

GerardMkIIVR6 19-01-2009 20:38

It is possible and can be done but it's a lot of work especially the windscreen blower part.
Yeah ive don it 10 years ago :D
And now i'm driving with a MKIV dash(2years now);)

have you fitted a VR6 to an early MK2 ??

GerardMkIIVR6 20-01-2009 20:11

No i fitted everything from a VR6 into a later model.
Early model is more work.
Wat kind off dash do you want now a corrado or MKIII dash?

sidecarphil 20-01-2009 20:33

corrado

thinking of just buying a complete corrado VR6

swapping every thing i need and selling the rest :)

GerardMkIIVR6 20-01-2009 20:41

Okay :D

sidecarphil 20-01-2009 20:46

sidecarphil 23-01-2009 17:55

Please :)

DubDoctor 24-01-2009 12:34

I have a 24v vr6 engine, gearbox, loom ect from a 4 motion, unfortunately the dash is RHD and I'm in the UK

sidecarphil 24-01-2009 16:37

oooh

but cos my car is an early one i will struggle to do the wiring

easier for me

Thanks any way

P.S how much do you want for it ??

DubDoctor 24-01-2009 20:18

Don't worry about the wiring it pretty much plugs together, just the front and rear lights to do.
good luck anyway, worth a try!
£1350 for the 24v only done 12000 miles

P.S. I have converted a Mk1 golf to run a 12v Vr6 in the past.
An early pic during build
