Will having the wrong MAS effect a FI engine?

I had won some MAS (mass air sensors) on ebay in a lot... after relisting the incorrect one for my van (got one for my 77 and one for 78-79's).

Needless to say the part number for my VW Westfalia MAS is
BOS-0-280-200-018

I decided to swap the one on my westy with the replacement one I had because the one on my car stuck and I thought it could have issues with effecting the running operation of the motor.

The part installed on mine was
BOS-0-280-200-020 however according to www.cip1.com the correct part number is the 018 MAS...

Now, I have the correct part on the van according to what cip1's site says is the correct part... Is there any negative side effects that could have been temporary or permenent with the incorrect MAS on it?

Just wanted to verify and make sure I'm good to go...

Thanks Jered

maybe the engine has runned a bit too rich or lean for a while. Don't think it'll be a problem.

only if you have a lambda be careful with running too rich, could damage the lambda.

whats a lambda?

The Lambda is the oxygen sensor.

Have you tried the Type 2 list? Found at http://www.type2.org. Or maybe the forums at shoptalkforums.com or thesamba.com. The Type 2's were sold with carburettors well into the 80s here in Europe, so I think it will be hard to find some good answers here.

nope... no O2 sensor....

is there a good forum for the US for type 2's? or a type 4 motor forum?

Thanks

Hey, this unanswered thread popped up on the first page when I Google searched "Type2.com", so I figured I'd register and answer it :)

I posed the same question over on thesamba.com a little while back, and this is the response I got:

The 018 was superceded by the 020, so if you were to go into a VW dealer and order a AFM(airflow meter)for your '76 or '77 they would sell you a 020(if they were still available today).

So you're ok. They are the exact same part, the different #'s just tell you how old they are. The door/flap in mine was sticking too, so I sanded the housing a little to free it up, since; when I popped the plastic top off the AFM, the electrical components inside looked new, therefore I wanted to get some more miles out of it.
